Day 01 Departure from NY
Depart the US from JFK International Airport
Day 02 Arrival in Accra
Arrive in Accra in the morning. You will be met and transferred to your hotel. Enjoy the rest of the day at leisure. Evening traditional dance and dinner
Overnight at your hotel
Day 03 Highlights of Accra, capital of Ghana
After breakfast, depart for the Kwame Nkrumah Mausoleum and Museum.
Hunt for bargains at the Arts and Crafts Bazaar next door.
2:00 P After lunch, proceed to Dr. W.E.B. DuBois Center for Pan African Culture.
Celebrate Dr. DuBois’ contributions to Africa and to the world. Stop at Omanye House where you’ll find contemporary African art by celebrated Ghanaian Artists.
7:00 P A seamstress will take measurements and orders for traditional Ghanaian clothes
Day 04 Accra Kumasi
After breakfast, depart Accra for Kumasi, exploring the colorful Kente cloth in Bonwire enroute.
3:30 P Check in at your hotel and rest for the remainder of the day
7:30 P Dinner (at your expense)
Day 05 Highlights of Kumasi, capital of the Ashanti Region
Visit King Prempeh II Museum to learn about Ashanti Kings and their resistance to British attempts to expand their influence into the Ashanti Kingdom
10:30 A Kumasi Cultural Center excursion to observe various forms of art in the making; batiking, drum carving, basket weaving, tie-dyeing, lost wax method of bronze casting, etc.
2:00 P Tour Manhyia Palace, official residence of the Ashanti Kings. Also explore the Wax museum and learn more about the Kings and Queenmothers and their role in Ghanaian society.
4:00 P Depart for Ahwiaa and Ntonso to observe wood carvers creating stools, fertility dolls and Adinkra cloth
7:30 P Dinner (at your expense)
Day 06 Kumasi Cape Coast
After an early morning naming ceremony and breakfast, depart for Elmina.
Arrive and check in at your hotel.
This afternoon proceed to the Elmina Castle for a guided tour. Elmina and Cape Coast Castles, both World Heritage Sites, record the horrors of the Trans-Atlantic slave trade.
8:00 P Dinner (at your expense)
Day 07 Kakum National Forest Cape Coast Castle
After breakfast, depart for Kakum National Forest. You will have the choice between walking the trails with a guide to explore the cultural and medicinal uses of the plants in the forest or for the more adventuresome the canopy walkway will provide a birds eye view of the forest.
1:30 P Proceed to Cape Coast Castle for the historical exploration of the slave trade
8:00 P Dinner (at your expense)
Day 08 Cape Coast Accra
After breakfast, enjoy a free morning walking the beaches
This afternoon proceed to Accra for check in.
Day 09 Accra - NY
Enjoy the day at leisure or for personal pursuits.
Transfer to the airport in the evening and depart for NY
Day 10 Accra Depart Ghana
You will depart Accra on Day 9; depending on your airline/flight you will arrive in NY, JFK International on Day 9 or 10.
