Located in front of the Arenal Volcano, within the corridor followed by birds migrating between North and South America, the trails and bridges of this project will bring you as close as you could ever hope to get to the birds, the flowers and the lush vegetation of the primary rainforest. Walk right into the forest, thanks to the imposing hanging bridges overlooking the canopy and our easy, safe and beautiful trails with views of the Volcano.

Transfer to Sarchi where the shopping is great. Overnight at Bougainvillea hotel; B/L/D

Day 5

Basilica de Los Angeles
Located in the city of Cartago, this Catholic Cathedral is an important sanctuary dedicated to an apparition of a statue of the Black Madonna, the patron saint of Costa Rica.

Tradition states that a small statue of the Black Madonna and Child miraculously appeared in Costa Rica where the cathedral currently stands. On August 2 each year, Catholics from all over the country gather at the cathedral to pay homage to the "Negrita," as the Black Virgin is known in Costa Rica. We recommend that you dress appropriately when visiting a Basilica. Keep in mind that it is a very important church to the people of Costa Rica and please do not wear shorts or revealing clothing. A light jacket or long-sleeved shirt would also be helpful as Cartago is known to be windy.
Overnight at Guayabo Lodge; B/L/D

Day 6

Today you will enjoy the Tayutic Hacienda Tour experiencing the area's traditions, culture, and geography in living color. Begin the day with stunning panoramic views of the breathtaking Turrialba Valley then the majestic Irazu and Turrialba volcanoes. Proceed to the 19th-century church with vibrant stained-glass windows; the Aromatic herb garden; Whimsical stone maze; Mysterious pre-Columbian stone spheres as the discovery continues. Your Bilingual naturalist guide will take you through Coffee, Sugar cane and Macadamia plantations. Stepping back in time you will be immersed in Costa Rican traditions while observing the age-old process of making "tapa de dulce" (organic brown sugar). Upon conclusion of the tour a delicious traditional Costa Rican meal will be served. B/L/D

Day 7

Back to San Jose: National Theater, Gold museum and Jade Museum Tours

Jade Museum "Marco Fidel Tristan Castro"
This museum groups a series of important archaeological pieces, of pre-Columbian ages. Its purpose is to protect, conserve and divulge the indigenous Costa Rican heritage. Here you will appreciate polychromic pottery, gold works, and jade pieces of the Mesoamerican area and mainly of certain regions of Costa Rica, among which Guanacaste and Nicoya (Northern Pacific); Central Valley and Atlantic Watershed.

National Theater
Representing the European aspirations of the coffee-growing society the National Theater was built by the end of the nineteenth century. The taste and refinement in all finishes of this national jewel stands in sharp contrast to the underdevelopment of the country in that time to the extent that it was said in Europe that Costa Rica was a village encircling the National Theater. The National Theater is still there and the village has somewhat changed.

Gold Museum
The Pre-Columbian Gold Museum is part of the Central Bank Museums. An underground cultural center, the Central Bank Museums offer several attractions for the visitor. The Pre-Columbian Gold Museum is one of a kind. It has a superb collection of objects in gold that reflect the world view, social structure, culture, and metallurgy of pre-Columbian Costa Rican people. The exhibition consists of 1000 original pieces dating from 300 to 1500 A.C
