Tarangire National Park

Friday, November 23rd, 2007

Yesterday was Tembo Day. Tembo is the KiSwahili word for elephant. Spending the afternoon at Tarangire National Park I saw several families of elephants including babies. They swam, they gave themselves mud baths, threw dirt on themselves and ate while I followed along in the safari vehicle. It was simply amazing to see so many elephants in one place.

Besides the elephants, I saw more giraffes (Twiga-in KiSwahili), dik-dik (digidigi), eland, Thomsons gazelle, waterbuck, buffalo, lots of zebra and the list goes on.

I will load pictures after November 29 so return to this page later. By the way, I am currently in Ngorongoro Crater. I can see the carter floor from my lodge window. I will drive to the cater floor tomorrow morning.

I will sign off for today. I have had a full day traveling viewing wildlife and eating too much as usual. The entertainment with drumming and dancing this evening which featured several ethnic dances was very informatic.

Going back to food; the past few days I have enjoyed lunches at sites with spectacular views overlooking lakes. This afternoon I had to eat in the safari vehicle because the baboons around Ngorongoro try to steal your food if you have it sitting out. So I stayed in the car. I heard a man yelling and I looked over the baboon had entered his car and managed to make away with a bag. I will tell you more.

Arusha National Park

Tuesday, November 20th, 2007

Arusha National Park is one of the smallest game parks in Tanzania. From this park you can get a very good view of Mt. Meru, the third highest peak in Africa. The main attractions for Arusha National parks are the Black and White Columbus Monkey, the Mmomella Lakes (a series of small lkaes with wildlife), and the Ngorodoto Crater.Today I visited the park and saw the Black and White Colombus Monkeys. I also a lot of the plains animals such as the zebra, baboons, monkeys, birds, and girrafes-twiga in Swahili-the official language spoken in Tanzania.I saw some plant life as well. The sausage tree, acacia, and more. I will share some photos with you beginning with Twiga (girrafe) since it is my favorite land animal.

Jambo,

Pack your passport, binoculars and camera; better yet you don’t even have to leave home to enjoy this adventure in Tanzania. Follow my safari from Mt. Kilimanjaro to Serengeti. From November 21-27, 2007 check in daily to view the catch of the day. Don’t worry, I don’t kill game, I only aim to shoot with cameras. Are you on board? Remember, if you have any questions about Tanzania, the people including the Maasai, wildlife, etc. ask away and I will post answers.
